“Forest will trick you”.
Recently I came across my fellow trekker’s blog Juswravel Nations It strikes me to pen on another write up into my blog. This piece of information can be your “Survival Guide”.
I keep telling people who trek with me, from kids to elders and make sure to add these lines before every forest trek “The forest will trick you”.
You must be wondering how and why? Yes, its not a movie that you see paranormal activities in jungle but there are many other things to consider and beware of.
10 things you should be aware on your trek into a jungle.
To all my urban friends,
Now that you have all mastered survival Technique – in an absurd, restless and urban concrete jungle; managing daily needs, finances, savings and discipline in almost everything.
Why don’t you sit back and do a small homework before you backpack for your next adventure into the forest. Yes, it will save you, me and everyone by making no harm to nature our resource.
I know you are very enthusiastic and energetic for your next adventure. But make sure you follow these 10 tips to keep yourself out of danger.
#1: Things to carry:
Make a list of things to carry by doing a small research on the forest you are entering. If it is a thick canopy it will get darker early than usual. What you need? Yes, that’s a torch. Now your torch attract lot of flies and insect and you need a repellent cream to avoid bites. Likewise keep your things to carry list updated.
#2: Water is sweet:
Yes forest and mountain water is rich in minerals and purest than your tap waters but wait, it is still dangerous the bacteria and germs make you sick and may collapse you. Carry your water and you may buy one instant water purifying bottles which is available in stores.
#3: Fruit in Forest is not food:
Strictly NO!! Not everything looks like a fruit in a forest is edible. You need to have good knowledge on such fruits before you pluck it and give a bite and also stop others from doing it. Don’t take a chance some are poison and react faster before your fellow trekkers could realize what happened.
#4: Fragrance of flowers:
You will come across many flowers that will try to grab your attention and pull you close to it. Now, Stop!! There are no boards to say do not pluck them but make a virtual caution board in your mind don’t even dare touching them it can be allergic and do not smell as forest flowers have more pollen which can cause you choke, suffocate and create breathing issues.
#5: Leaves and Bushes are home for some:
Yes you heard it right, so do not walk on the leaves and bushes I know if you don’t care for those insects and reptiles but love your life at least. There can be a snake, scorpion or any other insects which will definitely hurt you when you hurt them. Don’t get bitten and sting you can’t be taken to hospital quickly.
#6: Those creepy Sound- Resonance:
Some birds and animals will make rumbling re-echoing sounds
Ignore them, be brave do not follow the sound you may lose your track and get lost in jungle. You have come on a trek you follow your trail. If you are really sure about a danger signal inform your fellow members and make a planned move.
#7: Do not panic:
Many expostulate that the very important contraption you have on while on your trail in not in your backpack but in your mind. Once you are lost or encountered a danger do not panic, act wisely and see what you have to take you out from that. Let people know where you are or make use of your gadgets and safety tools.
#8: Shelter is not anywhere and everywhere:
Forest is not your property, So if you plan to stay that night!!. Be prepared, reach safe zone, build your shelter as isolated as possible ensure the animal movement and build a fire to indicate your stay in the jungle. Fire helps you stay away from animals (make sure you don’t burn whole jungle). Carry your tents and sleeping bags to save you from extreme weather condition.
#9: You harm it and it harms you:
You are a litter bug, clutter up and throw into everywhere may create toxic gases and produce forest fire. Even if you are not the reason it is your own kind and you suffer. If you come across such accidents don’t run away from the situation see how you can be of any help but remember what air-hostess say “Before you assist others, always put your oxygen mask on first” make certain that you are safe and there is a way out.
#10: Give thought to positive:
I believe the forest can hear your deepest thoughts. Happy or sad no matter it will respond to you be positive and try to enjoy your escape. It terrifies you when you are lost in the jungle but if you have precaution, you can make it a story-telling memory. Just think of it.
